Electrodeposited manganese oxides as efficient photocatalyst for the degradation of tetracycline antibiotics pollutant

One of the important environmental challenges 21st century is effective removal pollutants from aquatic environment. In this study, electrodeposited manganese oxides (MnyOx) films were applied as visible-light-driven photocatalyst for and mineralization Tetracycline (TC) antibiotics. The photocatalytic activity as-deposited annealed MnyOx was tested at different pH values using LED visible illumination, resulting in 92.4 % TC efficiency after 180 min best performing oxide. Quenching experiments showed that hydroxyl radicals (OH) are main active species responsible degradation. photocorrosion has been studied by quantifying concentration dissolved cations during experiments. By comparing catalyst mass loss with mineralization, we revealed degradation oxide surface structure factor that, more than photocorrosion, limiting films. Finally, mechanism proposed based on detection intermediates process High-Performance Liquid Chromatography Mass-Spectroscopy. facile synthesis superior rate can open up a new approach possible large-scale utilization an light photocatalyst.
